Step 1

Preheat the broiler. Peel the potatoes and cut into large chunks.

Bring a pot of water to a boil. Add salt and the potatoes and cook for 15 minutes.

Melt the butter in a hot pan, then add the onion and sauté for 3 minutes over medium heat.

Add the ground beef, season with salt and pepper and brown for 5 minutes, stirring. Set aside.

Mash the potatoes and add the butter and milk.

Grease a baking dish with butter. Transfer the ground beef to the dish, then spread the mashed potatoes evenly on top.

Sprinkle with grated cheese and place under the broiler for 10 minutes. That's it!
