Stovetop, Oven, Pot (small), Frying pan, Peeler, Colander, Baking dish
Step 1
Preheat the oven on broil mode. Peel & slice the potatoes into chunks.
Step 2
In a pot of salted boiling water, cook the potatoes 15 min, over medium heat.
Step 3
Meanwhile, peel & small dice the onions.
Step 4
Melt a dab of butter in a hot pan, over high heat. Add the onions & sauté for 2-3 min.
Step 5
Add the ground beef to the pan & continue cooking for another 4-5 min, breaking down the meat with a spatula. Set aside.
Step 6
Once cooked through, drain the potatoes. Add them back to the pot & season with salt, pepper & a pinch of nutmeg (optional). Mash the potatoes using a potato masher or a fork. Add the butter & milk & continue mashing until smooth.
Step 7
In a greased oven-proof dish (we used a 32 x 20.5 cm dish here), add the minced beef. Spread the potato mash on top in an even layer. Sprinkle over with grated cheese & bake for 10 min on grill mode.
Step 8
Once the shepherd's pie is nice & golden on top, remove the dish from the oven. Serve the shepherd's pie in a plate with a side of green salade. Enjoy !
