Step 1
Preheat the oven to 200°C Peel the shallots and cut them lengthwise in half.
Step 2
In a frying pan on high heat, melt the butter with the sugar. Add the shallots.
Step 3
Cook for 5 minutes, stirring frequently.
Step 4
Add the vinegar, salt & pepper. (Optional: add a few branches of thyme) Lower heat to low and cook for an additional 7 minutes, while continuing to stir frequently.
Step 5
Transfer the shallots to a pie pan and spread out evenly.
Step 6
Place the puff pastry on top of the shallots, folding the edges over the top.
Step 7
Using a fork, pierce the dough a few times and bake at 200°C for 20 minutes.
Step 8
Remove the tart from the oven and wait 5 minutes before flipping it over. To do so, invert a serving plate on top of the pie pan. Hold the two together securely, and then flip the plate and pie pan in one quick move. Let’s eat!
