Shallot

Step 1

Preheat the oven to 200°C. Peel the shallots and cut them lengthwise in half.

Sugar (granulated)
Butter (salted)

Step 2

In a frying pan on high heat, melt the butter with the sugar. Add the shallots.

Step 3

Cook for 5 minutes, stirring frequently.

Balsamic vinegar
Thyme (fresh)

Step 4

Add the vinegar, salt & pepper. (Optional: add a few branches of thyme) Lower the heat to low and cook for an additional 7 minutes, continuing to stir frequently.

Step 5

Transfer the shallots to a pie dish and spread out evenly.

Puff pastry

Step 6

Place the puff pastry on top of the shallots, folding the edges over the top.

Step 7

Using a fork, pierce the dough a few times and bake at 200°C for 20 minutes. Remove from the oven and allow to cool for 5 minutes.

Step 8

To flip the tart, place a large plate over the pie dish and holding together, flip in one quick move. Enjoy!
