Feel like you're in a French brasserie, in the comfort of your own home!
Stovetop, Frying pan, Pot (small)
Step 1
Peel and chop the potatoes into cubes.
Step 2
Cook the potatoes in boiling water for 20 minutes.
Step 3
Meanwhile, mince the shallots.
Step 4
Add a 1/3 of the butter to a hot frying pan and cook them for 2 minutes. Add a bit of water and leave it to evaporate.
Step 5
Chop up some chives if you have any and put them to the side.
Step 6
Once the water has evaporated, add the steak to a frying pan and cook for 2 minutes on each side for medium rare. (It's a thinner cut of steak so it cooks fast, so if you like your steak rare or medium, be sure not to cook it for too long!)
Step 7
Mash them with a fork, salt and pepper to taste, and add some butter or olive oil if you wish.
Step 8
Remove the meat from the pan. Add a bit of water into the pan with another 1/3 of the butter to make the sauce. When the butter is melted and browned, the sauce is done.
Step 9
(Optional: Mix the chives into the mashed potato if you have any.)
Step 10
Plate your mashed potatoes with your flank steak, top with the shallots and drizzle the sauce over the top. And enjoy!
