Cozy up to this caramel apple french toast on a weekend morning !
Make sure you have...
Stovetop, Pot (small), Frying pan, Whisk
Step 1
In a small saucepan over low heat, add the sugar. Without stirring it, let the sugar completely melt & slowly caramelize, until it becomes a nice brown color.
Step 2
Remove the pan from the heat once it is completely melted. Add the butter & whisk quickly until fully melted.
Step 3
Add half of the cream & stir using a whisk. Set aside. The caramel will thicken up while resting. If the sauce looks clumpy, reheat it for 1-2 min, over low heat, while whisking until it comes together smoothly.
Step 4
Wash & cut the apples into wedges & remove the core.
Step 5
In a shallow bowl, add : the remaining cream, a pinch of cinnamon (optional) & the eggs. Whisk to combine. Dunk the brioche slices into the mix to fully soak each side.
Step 6
Heat a drizzle of oil in a pan, over medium heat. Add the apples slices & cook for 5-6 min, until the apples are lightly browned. Set aside.
Step 7
In the same pan, melt a dab of butter. Add the soaked bread & cook for 2 min on each side, until cooked through & well browned.
Step 8
Serve the french toast topped with the warm apples & caramel sauce. Enjoy !
Use any leftover caramel sauce as a dip for fresh fruit, a topping for ice cream or to make a caramel latte. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks !
