Cozy up to this caramel apple french toast on a weekend morning !
Stovetop, Pot (small), Frying pan, Whisk
Step 1
In a small saucepan on low heat, add the sugar & cook until completely melted. Let the sugar slowly caramelize, without stirring it, until it becomes a nice brown color.
Step 2
Remove the pan from the heat once it is completely melted. Add the butter & whisk quickly until fully melted.
Step 3
Add half of the heavy cream & stir. Stir in a pinch of salt, if desired. Set aside. The caramel sauce will look loose but will thicken up while resting. If the sauce looks clumpy, add it back to the stove on low heat for 1-2 min while whisking until it comes together smoothly).
Step 4
Wash & cut the apples into wedges & remove the core.
Step 5
In a shallow bowl, add the remaining heavy cream, a pinch of cinnamon if desired & the eggs. Whisk to combine.
Step 6
Dunk the brioche slices into the egg mixture, allowing it to soak for 30 sec each side.
Step 7
Heat a drizzle of oil in a frying pan on medium-high heat. Add the apples & cook for 5-6 min until the apples are lightly browned. Remove the apples from the pan.
Step 8
In the same pan, melt a dab of butter on medium heat. Add the soaked bread & cook for 2 min on each side, or until the french toast is cooked through & well browned.
Step 9
Serve the french toast topped with the apples & caramel sauce. Enjoy !
Use any leftover caramel sauce as a dip for fresh fruit, a topping for ice cream or to make a caramel latte. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks !
