Oven, Frying pan, Stovetop, Tart pan
Step 1
Preheat the oven to 200°C. Wash & slice the tomatoes in half.
Step 2
In a warm pan, over low heat, add the sugar & balsamic vinegar. Melt the sugar stirring continuously, until the mix begins to lightly bubble.
Step 3
Add the tomatoes & cook for 6-7 min on each side, until they begin to lightly caramelize. Season with salt & pepper.
Step 4
Arrange the tomatoes in one layer into the pie dish (we used a 23cm diameter dish here).
Step 5
Arrange the pie dough* on top of the tomatoes & fold the edges inward. Prick the dough with the tip of a fork & bake for 40 min at 200°C. *Check out our tips for this step
Step 6
Une golden brown, remove the tarte from the oven. Leave to cool completely before removing from the dish. Place a large circular dish in top of the pie dish & flip it in one swift gesture. Be aware that when flipping you might have a little cooking juice spillage. Serve with a side of green salad & enjoy !
For a truly flavoursome dish, we suggest spreading the pie dough with grainy mustard & 'herbes de Provence' before laying it on top of the tomatoes.
