Step 1
Using a peeler, create long strips of orange zest, then juice the orange.
Step 2
Peel the pears (leaving the stem).
Step 3
In a pot, add the wine, sugar*, cinnamon sticks and orange zest. (Optional: Add a few pieces of star anise.) Add the orange juice and bring to a simmer. *Check out our tips for this recipe
Step 4
Add the pears to the pot and simmer for 10 minutes, covered, over low heat.
Step 5
Halfway through cooking, turn the pears.
Step 6
Remove the pears from the pot and let the wine reduce until it forms a syrupy sauce.
Step 7
Serve the pears with the sauce.
If you wish to reduce sugar quantities, you can remove up to ⅓ of the sugar in this recipe without altering flavor.
