recipe

  • Step 1
Preheat the oven to 200°C Peel the shallots and cut them lengthwise in half.
  • Step 2
In a frying pan on high heat, melt the butter with the sugar*. Add the shallots. *Check out our tips for this step
  • Step 3
Cook for 5 minutes, stirring frequently.
  • Step 4
Add the vinegar, salt & pepper. (Optional: add a few branches of thyme) Lower heat to low and cook for an additional 7 minutes, while continuing to stir frequently.
  • Step 5
Transfer the shallots to a pie pan (we used a 23 cm diameter dish here) and spread out evenly.
  • Step 6
Place the puff pastry on top of the shallots, folding the edges over the top.
  • Step 7
Using a fork, pierce the dough a few times and bake at 200°C for 20 minutes.
  • Step 8
Remove the tart from the oven and wait 5 minutes before flipping it over. To do so, invert a serving plate on top of the pie pan. Hold the two together securely, and then flip the plate and pie pan in one quick move. Let’s eat!

Recipe tip

If you wish to reduce sugar quantities, you can remove up to ⅓ of the sugar in this recipe without altering flavor.
